Earlier this year, it was announced that Lune, a climate-positive company offering API and software tools, won the FinTech Zone award at EBAday 2024. This accolade recognizes companies that demonstrate genuine innovation and the capacity to provide effective solutions to current challenges in finance and banking. Months following this recognition, Lune continues to progress toward enhancing climate processes for its clients.
Climate concerns are increasingly important to consumers, compelling companies to pay attention. In today’s fast-paced research environment, businesses cannot afford to fall behind.
In a recent FinextraTV interview, Erik Stadigh, co-founder and CEO of Lune, remarked on the shifting landscape: “We see this kind of like the software trend of the last 20 or so years, where every single company has become a digital company. […] Similarly, we’ll see that in the coming decade, every company will become a climate company.”
With a growing number of regulations requiring businesses to be transparent about carbon emissions data and to report on the climate impact of their operations, navigating these new obligations can be challenging for many organizations already faced with numerous choices.
As Stadigh pointed out, “For almost every business out there, it’s super hard. They don’t have the time, they don’t have the resources, and they don’t have the know-how to do that. […] They’re sitting on corporate spend data, travel data, and so on.”
Lune aims to break down these barriers by providing tools and information that enable companies to understand their carbon emissions and climate impact, as well as assisting them in reporting such data effectively.
One effective method involves tracking expenditures via the cards used for purchases. Once a transaction is completed, the carbon emissions associated with that purchase are automatically calculated and included in a report.
As the world evolves, consumer preferences are also shaping these business practices. As Stadigh emphasized, the goal is to help businesses “embed granular emission calculations and high-quality carbon products into their product offerings so they can better serve their customers.”
