Swiss bank UBS has become the target of a cyberattack on a vendor that resulted in the leak of personal details belonging to tens of thousands of employees.
The data was taken from files belonging to supplier Chain IQ and later posted on the darknet. UBS stated, “A cyber-attack at an external supplier has led to information about UBS and several other companies being stolen. As soon as UBS became aware of the incident, it took swift and decisive action to avoid any impact on its operations.”
According to the French-speaking Swiss newspaper Le Temps, approximately 130,000 pieces of data were stolen, including the direct telephone number of bank director Sergio Ermotti.
Additionally, another Swiss bank, Pictet, was affected by the attack, with infiltrators obtaining extensive invoice data from certain providers over recent years. Both banks assert that no client data was compromised during the incident.
