Alipay has integrated QR code payments into augmented reality glasses from the Chinese company Rokid, allowing users to make in-store purchases by simply looking at product labels.
Over 250,000 units of Rokid Glasses have already been ordered, featuring Alipay’s digital payment technology tailored for AR glasses. Users can link their Alipay accounts to the Rokid app and use voice verification to initiate and confirm purchases after scanning the merchant’s Alipay QR code. Transactions complete in mere seconds, compared to the 20-30 seconds typical for phone-based QR payments.
“Equipping Rokid Glasses with payment capabilities provides users with a more seamless and intuitive experience, while also pioneering the AI glasses industry into the payment realm,” said Zhu Mingming, founder and CEO of Rokid. “This innovation results from our strong collaboration with Alipay on payment and risk technologies. Moving forward, we will continue to explore new experiences together.”
Zhu envisions that in the coming years, this technology could enable transactions through simple actions like looking at or gesturing toward a product, enhancing interactive product discovery. This would allow users to access real-time information, engage in virtual try-ons, and receive personalized recommendations, creating an immersive shopping experience.
