JP Morgan Launches Payments R&D Center in Athens

JP Morgan is launching a payments innovation lab in Athens as part of its broader expansion strategy in Greece.

Initially, the bank plans to recruit approximately 50 professionals, focusing on payments product development and engineering expertise. The lab will engage in research and development for the global payments sector, collaborating with Onyx, JP Morgan’s unit dedicated to advanced technologies like blockchain.

The center will prioritize the advancement of solutions related to distributed ledger technology, artificial intelligence, and cryptography within payment systems. It will be established in a new Athens office that will accommodate teams from the firm’s corporate, investment banking, and asset management divisions.

Takis Georgakopoulos, global head of JP Morgan Payments, commented, “We aim to remain at the forefront of payments innovation, and our new facility in Athens will serve as a vital hub for our cutting-edge initiatives.”
