UBS Becomes a Member of the Green Software Foundation

Swiss banking leader UBS has become a steering member of the Green Software Foundation, aligning itself with notable organizations such as Goldman Sachs, Microsoft, Accenture, GitHub, and ThoughtWorks.

Established last year, the nonprofit organization is dedicated to fostering a reliable ecosystem encompassing individuals, standards, tools, and best practices aimed at developing environmentally-friendly software. The foundation’s mission is to enable the software industry to play a significant role in achieving the information and communications technology sector’s ambitious goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 45% by 2030, in accordance with the Paris Climate Agreement.

UBS has joined the foundation to seek methods for decreasing emissions linked to its extensive technology infrastructure, as part of its commitment to reaching net-zero emissions by 2050. Mike Dargan, Group Chief Digital and Information Officer at UBS, stated, “At UBS, we believe that addressing carbon emissions requires a multifaceted approach. Our technology infrastructure is a key area where we can actively lessen our environmental impact by modifying daily practices and behaviors.”
