IT Consultant Convicted in the Murder of Cash App Founder Bob Lee

Nima Momeni, a 40-year-old tech entrepreneur, has been convicted of second-degree murder in the tragic stabbing death of Cash App founder, Bob Lee. Momeni now faces a potential sentence ranging from 15 years to life in prison.

The incident occurred in the early hours of April 4, 2024, following a night of socializing involving Momeni, his sister, and Lee. Prosecutors revealed that Momeni stabbed Lee twice in the chest with a kitchen paring knife, reportedly out of anger after learning that Lee had introduced his sister to a man who allegedly drugged her with a date-rape substance.

An autopsy report indicated that Lee had alcohol, ketamine, and cocaine in his system at the time of his death. Defense attorneys contended that Lee’s history of drug use contributed to aggressive behavior, which may have influenced the encounter.

After a week of careful consideration of the evidence, the jury reached their verdict. Bob Lee, who had a six-year tenure at Google before founding Square (now known as Block) in 2010, played a pivotal role in developing the widely-used Cash App, serving as its Chief Technology Officer.
