Blackbird Secures $50M in Funding for Restaurant Payments and Loyalty Platform

Blackbird Labs, a blockchain-based restaurant loyalty and payments app, has successfully secured $50 million in a Series B funding round.

The funding was led by Spark Capital, with contributions from Coinbase, a16z crypto, Union Square Ventures, and Amex Ventures.

Customers visiting restaurants within Blackbird’s network can earn rewards such as last-minute access to tables and off-menu items. Additionally, they earn a rewards currency called $FLY, which can be utilized at over 1,000 restaurants in cities like New York, San Francisco, and Charleston. The new capital will be used to facilitate expansion into more cities.

CEO Ben Leventhal, who previously founded the restaurant reservation platform Resy (acquired by American Express in 2019), indicates that the integration of Blackbird with American Express, now an investor, is a likely prospect.
