BBVA aims to expand its workforce to include 20,000 technology professionals by 2025, with plans to recruit 1,100 individuals for advanced technical positions.
Over the past three years, the Spanish banking leader has actively pursued top talent across various fields, including engineering, mathematics, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and data management. The bank has successfully integrated 10,100 new technology and data specialists into its operations and is now poised to enhance this figure as it propels its digital strategy forward.
To facilitate this growth, BBVA has introduced a new job portal that provides candidates with access to available positions, testimonials from current STEM employees, and the latest developments in the bank’s technology and data initiatives.
According to Pedro J. Méndez, BBVA’s head of talent and culture for engineering, the most sought-after profiles in engineering include software developers and data engineers, alongside specialists in security, infrastructure, and architecture.
“We have intentionally and strategically focused on attracting top tech talent in recent years, enabling us to not only fortify our team but also enhance our capacity for innovation in a rapidly evolving environment,” Méndez noted. “Our commitment to investing in talent positions us to tackle future challenges and sustain our leadership in the digitization process, ultimately delivering optimal products and services to our clients.”
In alignment with these goals, BBVA established a unified global software development division at the end of 2021. Two years later, the bank launched the ONE project, fostering a collaborative work environment where engineers can share best practices from within the organization and across the industry.
Additionally, BBVA has introduced BBVA Technology in Europe, with plans to extend its brand to the Americas in 2024. This expansion has already resulted in the creation of over 3,000 new technology roles by the end of the previous year.
