Wells Fargo Appoints Kerrins to New Generative AI Leadership Role

Wells Fargo has announced the appointment of Bridget Engle as the new head of technology, succeeding Tracaey Kerrins, who will now lead a newly established Generative AI team. Engle joins Wells Fargo from BNY Mellon, where she served as Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer until earlier this year. With over 30 years of experience in the financial sector, Engle has held various key positions, including CIO of Consumer Banking and CIO of Global Banking and Markets at Bank of America.

In her new role, Engle will oversee technology initiatives across the bank, taking over the responsibilities that Kerrins held for the last five years. Kerrins, meanwhile, will focus on consumer technology and spearhead the Generative AI initiative, working closely with data and technology management teams to harness the potential of this innovative technology in a responsible manner.

Wells Fargo CEO Charlie Scharf expressed confidence in Engle’s ability to lead the bank’s technology efforts, highlighting her extensive experience in overseeing large-scale technology transformations across major financial institutions. He acknowledged the significant progress made under Kerrins’ leadership and emphasized the strategic importance of Generative AI in enhancing customer experiences and improving operational efficiency.

Scharf stated, “Generative AI can help us transform our businesses, improve our customer and client experiences, and enhance the way we work. We are fortunate to have someone with Tracy’s background in our company who is ready to take on this new role and lead our Consumer Technology team.”

In line with this transformative shift, the bank’s upcoming initiatives will focus on leveraging Generative AI capabilities to foster innovation across its operations.

For those interested in the intersection of artificial intelligence and banking, the first NextGenAI conference will be held on November 26, 2024. More information and registration details can be found here.
