CommBank to Provide AI Training Modules for All Employees

Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CommBank) is introducing an AI microlearning initiative designed for its entire workforce.

The series, titled “AI For All,” features concise learning videos that delve into various subjects including generative AI, deep learning, and the principles of responsible AI. Additionally, employees will have access to AI training tailored to their specific roles.

Launched in May 2024, this microlearning program has reached approximately 43,000 CommBank staff members and has garnered over 22,000 views across its nine modules. Jane Adams, Executive General Manager of Human Resources Technology at CommBank, emphasized the importance of AI, stating, “We recognize that AI is an increasingly vital tool for delivering optimal products and experiences for our customers, and we are dedicated to nurturing a skilled, future-ready workforce.”

For several years, CommBank has leveraged AI technology to enhance customer protection against fraud and scams, as well as to address technology-facilitated abuse. Recently, the bank disclosed its exploration of generative AI to create ‘synthetic customers’ that mimic human behavior for testing new products and services.

CommBank is committed to a principles-based framework that governs the design, development, deployment, and usage of AI solutions. Adams noted the importance of incorporating responsible AI as a fundamental aspect of the training content, affirming that all employees play a crucial role in utilizing AI responsibly and managing associated risks.
