Sustainable Finance Live 2024: A Conversation with Oxbury Bank

Sustainable Finance Live 2024 will commence on October 8th at Events@No6 in London. The event aims to spotlight innovative solutions and gather experts to brainstorm strategies for overcoming sustainability challenges within the finance sector. This year’s focus will be on the value of natural capital and its transaction processes.

In an insightful series of interviews regarding investments in nature and climate initiatives, Richard Peers, founder of ResponsibleRisk, interviewed Tim Coates, co-founder of Oxbury Bank, earlier this year on FinextraTV. Oxbury Bank, which launched in 2021, was designed to serve the agri-food sector by supporting farmers throughout their supply chains.

Coates articulated the industry’s urgent need for “dedicated, specialist support,” which Oxbury provides through a technology-enabled approach. He emphasized the importance of addressing environmental issues and climate resilience, particularly in the UK, which is one of the most nature-depleted countries globally.

He remarked, “If we are unable to cultivate productive farmland in a healthy environment that respects nature and climate, the future of farming is at risk.” He further stated, “There is no inherent conflict between food security and nature; rather, our goal is to build resilience. We aim to support farms in transitioning to a production model that not only ensures their long-term viability but also creates societal and economic value through nature restoration and adaptation to our climate crisis.”

Coates elaborated on Oxbury Bank’s holistic business model, which integrates collaboration across the supply chain, engaging farmers, producers, and retailers in conversations about investing in natural capital.

Moreover, Oxbury Bank prioritizes environmental impact and financial emissions, striving to categorize its lending in alignment with existing policy frameworks and maintain sustainability standards that are critically needed in the agri-food sector.
