CommBank’s x15Ventures Backs Xccelerate Winner Gable

CommBank’s venture scaling arm, x15Ventures, has invested in the Seattle-based data management startup Gable, which triumphed among fintechs in the latest Xccelerate24 programme.

Founded in Seattle in 2023, Gable aids developers in ensuring the quality and governance of vital data as it moves within an organization. The platform employs AI to identify data sources within the organization and monitor its flow across various services and databases. This capability helps to highlight sensitive data, such as personally identifiable information (PII), and trigger alerts when compliance or quality standards are at risk.

Kelvin Lim, chief technology officer of x15, expressed admiration for Gable’s approach, stating: “We were impressed with how Gable’s solutions could empower our engineers to handle critical tasks, such as tracking changes to essential data, identifying PII, and establishing compliance policies. This not only instills confidence that code changes won’t lead to issues but also allows our testing, governance, and compliance teams to focus on their core responsibilities.”

With a diverse portfolio of ventures generating various types of data, Lim emphasized the importance of understanding data flow, adding, “Gable’s technology could uniquely and efficiently support us in this endeavor, and we’re eager to explore the possibilities.”

Gable was selected from nearly 100 startups that applied for the latest Xccelerate program, which aimed at technology “reimagining the customer and employee experience with data and AI.” This was the first time the program accepted applications from international founders in addition to local ones.

As part of winning the Xccelerate program, Gable will embark on a project with x15 to detect code changes within its isolated technology environment while also exploring broader opportunities with CommBank.

Gable’s CEO, Chad Sanderson, remarked, “Being able to explore potential partnerships with CommBank—a recognized leader in financial services innovation and AI maturity—feels like a significant endorsement of our mission. We believe we are building something special, and I look forward to spending more time in Australia in the coming months to explore what Gable, x15, and CommBank can achieve together.”

Additionally, as a result of the 2024 program, three other finalists—Cleric, Dragonfly Thinking, and Eidiex—are also actively pursuing partnership opportunities with CommBank.
