India is launching new domains for banks and financial service providers to combat cybercrime.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) plans to introduce an exclusive “.bank.in” domain for the country’s banks starting this April, followed by a “.fin.in” domain for non-bank financial institutions.
According to the RBI, “This initiative aims to reduce cybersecurity threats and malicious activities like phishing while streamlining secure financial services, ultimately enhancing trust in digital banking and payment services.”
The Institute for Development and Research in Banking Technology will act as the exclusive registrar for these new domains.
