Lunar and SAS Collaborate to Launch Debit Card

Danish neobank Lunar has introduced a new debit card in collaboration with Scandinavian Airlines (SAS), enabling users to earn and redeem EuroBonus points.

EuroBonus points can be utilized for SAS flights and various travel benefits, including hotel stays, car rentals, and more. This partnership aims to solidify Lunar’s presence in Scandinavia by aligning with a prominent regional airline.

With the new debit card, both new and existing EuroBonus program users can earn points through everyday purchases made in the Lunar app. The card will be accessible to all Lunar users in Scandinavia, both in physical form and through digital wallets.

Users will earn 8 EuroBonus points for every 100 DKK spent, while new Lunar customers will receive 3,000 welcome points, with the first 10,000 sign-ups getting an additional 6,000 points.

In an exclusive comment, Ken Villum Klausen, CEO and founder of Lunar, emphasized the significance of partnering with a well-recognized Scandinavian brand like SAS, noting, “It’s a true Scandinavian brand; Danes see it as Danish, and Swedes perceive it as Swedish. This local connection is important as we operate in Scandinavia. Collaborating with SAS, which holds substantial brand value, presents a significant opportunity for both of us.”

Klausen highlighted Lunar’s focused strategy in the Nordic region, recognizing its unique and profitable banking landscape despite limited competition. He noted the shift from credit to debit as a growing trend among EuroBonus members, many of whom currently rely on credit cards.

“This is Scandinavian Airlines’ first venture into debit, making it a distinctive offering. In many regions, airline rewards are primarily tied to credit cards, so this move provides a unique opportunity for users to earn EuroBonus points through debit transactions,” Klausen explained.

Looking ahead, Klausen expressed Lunar’s ambition to accelerate growth across Denmark, Sweden, and Norway. “In the next six months, we will announce unique partnerships with some of the world’s largest fintechs, aimed at enhancing access to Nordic payment infrastructures. More significant announcements are expected after the summer, involving major players in the industry.”
