North Korean cybercriminals are anticipated to liquidate $40 million in stolen bitcoin in the coming days.
According to the FBI, within the last 24 hours, hacking groups affiliated with North Korea, namely Lazarus and APT38, have transferred approximately 1,580 bitcoin from various cryptocurrency heists and are currently holding these funds in six distinct wallets.
These two groups have been linked to several high-profile international cyberattacks this year, including the $60 million theft from Alphapo on June 22, 2023; a $37 million theft from CoinsPaid on the same day; and the $100 million theft from Atomic Wallet on June 2, 2023.
Federal authorities are urging private sector cryptocurrency businesses to meticulously assess the blockchain data associated with the six wallet addresses and to remain vigilant against transactions directly tied to or stemming from those addresses.
