UK Bank Customers Experience Delayed Payments

Thousands of bank customers in the UK have experienced payment issues, resulting in delays for some individuals receiving their salaries. A glitch in the UK’s Faster Payments system has impacted major banks, including Bank of Scotland, Halifax, Santander, NatWest, and Monzo.

Pay UK has acknowledged that these problems stem from the Faster Payments system, stating, “We are aware that a small number of Faster Payments were delayed or not processed earlier today.” By midday, the situation appeared to be improving, with banks informing customers that payments were being processed and expected to be completed by the end of the day. Pay UK added, “Working with our infrastructure provider, this technical issue has been fixed.”

Separately, on a day when many employees receive their paychecks, Nationwide reported that “third-party payment issues” had also affected some clients. The bank responded to frustrated customers on social media, confirming, “We are aware there is an issue meaning some customers’ salary or pension payments have been delayed today.”

Additionally, HSBC customers faced difficulties accessing their accounts through online and mobile platforms during the morning. The bank’s IT teams are actively working to restore services, stating, “You can still authorize online card purchases via SMS.” One frustrated customer responded, “Would go to my high street bank, but you closed that down and then closed the nearest one to that.”
