Ransomware Attack on Vendor Leads to Outages for 60 Credit Unions

Dozens of US credit unions have experienced outages following a ransomware attack on a cloud computing vendor.

Ongoing Operations, a unit of Trellance, reported being affected by an “isolated cybersecurity incident” on November 26, which impacted the operations of around 60 credit union clients. In a statement released on December 2, the vendor indicated that it took immediate action to address the incident and has informed federal law enforcement.

The firm is currently reviewing the affected data to ascertain the specifics of the information impacted and its ownership.

In a message dated December 4, Mountain Valley Federal Credit Union, one of the affected entities, stated: “As of today, MVFCU’s data processing system remains non-operational.” Meanwhile, the National Credit Union Administration is actively coordinating with the affected credit unions, noting that many have implemented “alternative services” during this disruption.
