WhatsApp Pay Now Accessible to All Users in India

Meta-owned WhatsApp has received approval to launch its peer-to-peer (P2P) payments service for all users in India.

Leveraging India’s Unified Payments Interface, WhatsApp Pay allows individuals to transfer money directly to family, friends, and loved ones via the contacts menu. The service launched in 2020; however, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) mandated a phased rollout that initially restricted it to 40 million users, later increasing to 100 million in 2022.

With the NPCI now lifting these limitations, WhatsApp Pay is available to all of the app’s 500 million users in India.
