Banco Santander has reported a data breach at a third-party provider that exposed both client and employee data.
The breach impacted the bank’s operations in Spain, Chile, and Uruguay. Santander acknowledged, “We recently became aware of unauthorized access to a database hosted by a third-party provider.” This incident involved certain information concerning customers from Santander Chile, Spain, and Uruguay, along with some current and former employees of the group.
The bank emphasized that no transactional information, access credentials, or internet banking passwords were compromised, and they have since contained the incident.
In their statement, Santander expressed, “We apologize for the concern this will understandably cause and are proactively contacting affected customers and employees directly. We have also notified regulators and law enforcement and will continue to work closely with them.”
