ABN Amro on High Alert Following Ransomware Attack on Supplier

ABN Amro is alerting customers that their personal information may be compromised following a ransomware attack on one of its suppliers.

The attack targeted AddComm, which is responsible for distributing documents and tokens to ABN Amro clients and employees, both physically and digitally. Cybersecurity experts are currently investigating the situation to determine what specific data may have been accessed at AddComm. In response, ABN Amro has temporarily suspended its business relationship with the firm and is notifying customers whose data might have been affected.

“We deeply regret the situation at our supplier and sincerely apologize for it,” stated the bank. “Currently, there are no indications that unauthorized parties have utilized the data of ABN Amro clients. Importantly, ABN Amro’s systems were not compromised.”

The bank has reported the data breach to the Dutch Data Protection Authority and relevant regulators. AddComm is also preparing to file a police report.
