BBVA is establishing a global cybersecurity center in Mexico as part of a partnership with IT services company Telefónica Tech. This initiative aims to enhance the bank’s defenses against growing security threats.
The new center will replicate the functionalities of the bank’s existing cybersecurity hub in Spain and will integrate artificial intelligence and process automation technologies for effective cybercrime detection and prevention.
Telefónica Tech offers nearly fifty services designed to provide a comprehensive security response tailored to the bank’s operational and business needs. These services include proactive threat anticipation, operational tactics definition, resilience strategies, and data processing center protection.
The cybersecurity centers in the Americas and Spain will employ approximately 200 Telefónica Tech cybersecurity experts who will collaborate with BBVA’s team, creating one of the largest cybersecurity establishments in the financial sector.
Sergio Fidalgo, BBVA’s global Chief Information Security Officer, emphasized that “these two specialized cybersecurity hubs are unprecedented in the financial industry and reflect a significant step toward safeguarding our infrastructures with the latest technological innovations. Our aim is to be an increasingly secure bank, ready to tackle various types of attacks while delivering the best service to our customers with top-tier security guarantees.”
